Beautiful Heartbreak - Hilary Weeks

Once again I have pulled something from the 71 Toes blog.

If you have been to a Time Out for Women and been priviledge to hear Hilary Weeks sing, you know that her songs and voice are amazing.  If you've also been to a Time Out for Women and heard Miriama speak, you know of the trials she went through living in her homeland and being part of war and all of the trials she went through just to remain alive.  What an amazing woman she is.

Here's a link to Hilary Weeks' new song.  The video is awesome and shows Miriama.  Watch to the end but have a kleenex nearby.  It's cool to see people holding signs at the end of the video.  I hope you read my post from yesterday.  You'll understand the signs even more if you did.

Enjoy!

A Good Reminder for Us All

It's been a long night.  It took until 10:05 to complete Hannah's two news articles so she can try out for an anchor person for EBTV.  It was frustrating but worth it when we completed the task and she said, "well, at least my stomach ache is gone now."  She is my worry-wort.

I sat down to watch the weather quickly on the news and decided to check blogs.  I have come to love the 71 Toes blog and the words of wisdom I find.  It was yesterday's post that caught my attention.  I was a bit behind in my reading.

Reading through her post, it linked to this story.  After reading it and having a few tears sneak out, I thought it was worth sharing.  It ends up being a great reminder for us all to be a bit kinder to each other.

I hope you'll take the time to read it.

Then I hope you'll come back and read the post from 71 Toes here:

http://www.71toes.com/2011/10/signs.html

After a long night of 4th grade homework, my sign would say: OH MAN! THAT WAS FRUSTRATING....BUT WE DID IT1

or would my sign say:
I'M SINKING AT HOME, WORK & WITH MY CHURCH CALLING.  I'M NOT SURE I CAN FIND THE LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL.

or would it be:
WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME?  WHY CAN'T I HAVE A HOUSE OF ORDER?

Hmmm....what would your sign read?

Busy...Busy....Busy

How would I describe life for us lately?  Busy....Busy....Busy.

We are down to our final week of soccer for Hannah and Ashley.  We watched Ashley play one of her last three games tonight.  It was such a fun game to watch.  She was soooo close twice of getting that goal.  Oh my gosh.....it's amazing how many times as a parent on the side line I've kicked the ball.  It is so fun to see her natural talent.  She is such the hustler too.  She is all over the field.  Her team is starting to play positions but it still turns into a little game of bee-ball.  That's okay though.  She's only six years old.

On Tuesday, October 4, Hannah scored her first goal!  Hurray!  What a proud moment that was.  I enjoyed seeing the look on her face of, "Oh my gosh!  Did I seriously do that?"  She then followed that up with goal number two on Saturday, October 8.  I know I'm the mom but this goal was beautiful.  I don't think she could have kicked that ball any prettier.

The confidence she has received from these past two games has been incredible to see.  She did have another game this past Tuesday and had three or four great goal shots the goalie for the other team just kept getting in the way!  How fun it is to see that the coaching Dave has given her as to how and where to play her position has finally kicked in!  I am sad that he missed seeing her two goals but he was able to see a big improvement in her when he watched her play Tuesday night.

We have games tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. (Hannah) and at 10:15 (Ashley).  Of course they're not on the same field so we will rush from Wellsville to Hyrum and hopefully make it there on time.  Ashley will finish up her season on Tuesday and Hannah will finish out the season playing on Tuesday and Thursday.  Hmmm....then what will we do with all our time?

The cold bug has hit our house.  It started with Ashley the week of October 3.  I ended up staying home from work with her on Wednesday and Thursday.  She was running a fever, barking like a seal when she coughed and just didn't feel well.  She was such a great kid being sick.  We actually hung out at Grandma Peterson's because there was no need to run back and forth from Mendon to Logan for early out on Wednesday for Hannah and preschool for Nicole on Thursday.  Too bad Grandma was still vacationing or we could have partied!  Kidding.  Ashley rested in Grandma's rocking chair while I actually worked.

Then this week, Nicole started losing her voice.  I knew it was coming and she woke up Thursday morning with the fever.  She didn't have a fever this morning so she did go to Emma's but she still doesn't have a voice.  Her soft little mouse voice is so cute!  She too was a great kid on Thursday.  She watched three Barbie movies while I sat next to her on the couch and, once again, worked from home.

I too came down with the cold this week.  We as mom's don't have time to be sick though.  We just trudge forward and hope it passess quickly!

Life has been crazy here at home and also crazy at work.  Since the end of August I have had deadline after deadline after deadline.  It seems to be continuing clear up until November 14 or at least this is the end of the deadlines that I can see for now until more pile on.

My church calling has also turned out to be a bit more challenging that I anticipated.  Everyone says it's because this is a crazy time of year with the Primary Presentation and trying to get things going in the right direction for next year.  It's been a bit overwhelming to try and keep things caught up and most of the time I feel as though I'm barely staying above water but we keep trudging forward every day.

I cannot believe how quickly the weeks go.  It seems as though our nights are filled with soccer games, soccer practice, TaVaci, piano, homework and reading.  Before I know it, it's the weekend, which flies by and then it's time to start the week over again.  I remember running into a friend at a restaurant and after she asked how old our girls were she commented that we're hitting the busy time of life.  Well... I have to say I agree.  However, it is so fun to see my girls grow and progress.  They amaze me each and every day as to how much they can accomplish and change.

Next weekend brings our last camping weekend for the year.  We're looking forward to it!  Then comes the holidays......and the snow!  So......until then I will enjoy being able to sit outside and watch my girls play soccer.....while Nicole makes new friends and plays on the playground.

An Enjoyable Conference Weekend

I always look forward to Conference Weekend.  It's the one time every six months that I can attend church in my pajamas with my hair not done and not a stitch of make up on.

I have been looking forward to this weekend for a couple of weeks now.  With my new calling in the Primary Presidency and still trying to get in a rhythm and figure things out, it was a well deserved break.  I love listening to the Prophet, his Counselors, the Apostles, members of the Seventy and all others that are asked to speak.  I love the uplifting words they provide.  I love the buoyed up feeling I receive.

Dave worked both Saturday and Sunday.  His schedule is so crazy now that one of the guys on his shift is out with a knee injury.  This does remind me not to take for granted when Dave does have Sundays off.  What a blessing it is to have him at home on the Sabbath and to have him with us at church.  When he's not there, I leave sacrament meeting exhausted and beading with sweat!  It's not as bad as it use to be when the girls were younger.  It's just always a chore keeping all three quiet and from picking on each other for 70 minutes!  However, as a family we understand Dave's career and understand that sometimes he can be with us and sometimes he can't.  Crime doesn't stop even though sometimes you wish it could pause for a minute.

Ashley was the only one that had a soccer game on Saturday.  How blessed we were that her game was at 9 a.m. in Wellsville.  We were home by 10:15 a.m. and enjoyed the rest of the weekend listening to all of the conference sessions.

My favorite speaker?  I would have to say it was the sister from the General YW Presidency (I should probably research and find her name but I'm being lazy at the moment).  She is the one that spoke on Father's raising Daughters.  Of course this topic is close to my heart......with a house full of girls.  I wish Dave would have been home to listen to it with us.  However, what a blessing Hannah was when she came up to turn conference on and she decided to record it too.  Now Dave and I can go back and watch it together.  Any words of wisdom we can get in raising three girls is greatly appreciated.  I struggle every day with how do you make sure they grow up liking and loving themselves.  How do you teach them to stand tall and be confident in themselves.  How do you teach them not to give in to peer pressure?  How do you teach them to always believe they are a Daughter of a Heavenly Father that loves them and will always be there for them?  I guess it's by going through the motions each and every day and by continuing the daily rituals of scripture study (even though you wonder if they're getting anything out of it), family prayer (which they can't hold still for) and regularly attending our church meetings (even though Sunday mornings are stressful and crazy and it would be easy to say never mind and stay home but we continue to go).

I also marvel at and enjoy listening to our dear Prophet, Thomas S. Monson.  I love to see his humor come out in his teachings.  I am speaking of his talk in this morning's session.  When the Prophet throws a bit of humor in his talk it reminds me that even though we hold him on a pedestal, he too is just like us.  I love how tender he is, how caring he is and how when he says that he loves each and every one of us, I feel that he truly does.

Well, after being uplifted with Conference, tomorrow starts a new week.  I wrote our schedule on the white board in the back hall and it looks as though Monday and Friday are the only two days of peace with nothing going on.  I am so thankful that Dave is currently on Day shift.  Especially for this soccer season.  I get a little bummed when I realize we are down to four more weeks of days and then comes Swing Shift, which is totally NOT my favorite.  The kids are in school and I'm at work while Dave's at home.  We come home and Dave's at work until the girls are in bed and sound to sleep.  This is the shift when I get high respect for single moms.  I don't know how they do it.  I do it for eight weeks and it is so hard but at least I know mine will come to an end in eight longs weeks but theirs doesn't.

We are missing Grandma Peterson as she is off touring the New England States.  Hannah is going through withdrawals.  If I'd let her, she'd call Grandma every hour to chat and see how things are going.  We chatted with her yesterday for a minute and she was by the ocean.  Today when we chatted quickly she was in Salem touring a ship in the harbor.

It is going to be a crazy week without her.  Hopefully, I can remember to take lunch early Tuesday and Thursday in order to pick Nicole up from preschool and to lunch late on Wednesday to pick Hannah and Ashley up from school for their early out day.

We do hope and pray that Grandma is having the time of her life.  Visiting the New England states is one of her life-long dreams.  It is fun to see that she's finally doing something she has dreamed about for years.  I hope she soaks it all in and has an amazing experience.  But....we can't wait until she's back!

Have a great week everyone.......if anyone reads my blog!
