Nicole's Cute Hair Cut

It really was quite a task to get a "good shot" of Nicole's cute new haircut.  What a ham!

Oh my!

And the Winner Is.......

Hannah!

Hannah and Ashley's school does a recipe contest for the 1-5 grades.  A student can enter an entree, bread or dessert recipe.  A winner is selected for each category and then there's a "Chef of the Day" lunch where each of the winner's recipe is featured.

The school had an assembly and it was announced that Hannah's White Chicken Chili recipe she submitted won the entree category.  Wahoo!  A special thanks to Traci for the recipe.  It's one of our family favorites and Hannah picked this recipe to enter.

On Friday, March 4, Hannah and the two other winners were able to invite family and friends to come and eat lunch with them.  They were also able to be the first ones to eat lunch at 11 a.m. because once the students came for lunch these three girls sat in the hall and autographed recipes.

Along with signing autographs, Hannah was given a "real" chef's hat, a kids cookbook and a spiral bound copy of all the recipes that were entered.

Me, Ashley, Dave and Grandma Peterson came and ate lunch with Hannah, which might I say.....this was the best school lunch I've eaten at the school!  It consisted of White Chicken Chili, garlic bread, and chocolate cake.  It really was yummy!

Congrats Hannah!

There She Blows.....Again

If you remember, a couple of springs ago, Dave and I purchased the girls a trampoline for their birthdays.  We had it for about six weeks...maybe less...and then a windstorm came through and dumped it a couple of fields away in a pile of metal.  The girls were devastated.

Well, on Monday, Dave purchased the girls another trampoline off ksl.com.  He drove to Brigham and brought it home.  The girls spent Monday and Tuesday nights playing together and having a great time on the trampoline.

Then.......came the windstorm through Mendon this evening.......

We were sitting at the kitchen table.  I was helping Ashley with her reading, Dave was helping Hannah with her math and Nicole was off playing princess.  The wind really started blowing and it was coming straight from the north to the south.  I comment to Dave and ask if he has a way to tie the trampoline down.  He comments, "Maybe we could tie it to the trailer."  Ha Ha. We're funny.  Within one minute of this conversation, Dave jumps up from the table because there goes the trampoline!  Yep......there she flies in the wind!

Dave's watching out the window trying to help it fly and land in the perfect spot.  It's now out of my view but I'm hoping it will catch on the corral panels in the field and stop.  Nope.  We couldn't be that lucky.  Dave runs out the front door to see where it's landed.  I head for the back door to grab my shoes and run outside to help.  I'm outside in the rain that is coming down sideways trying to find Dave.  Unbeknown to me, he had run out the front door without shoes so he had to come back in and grab some.  We left the girls behind freaking out once again because the trampoline has gone up the road and we're off to retrieve it before any cars come.

As it tumbled through our field, it dropped all three of it's legs so it's the top circle part lying in the middle of the road.  Dave and I pick up an end and start bringing it back home.  The wind is strong enough that it's picking up the other end of the trampoline and it's like we have a parachute floating behind us.  The rain is just pelting us in the face.  Between the wind and rain it kept taking my breath away as we're trying to make our way home.

We brought it onto the driveway, I kept my feet on it so it didn't blow away again, and Dave went inside to get the van keys.  So now....the van is parked outside and the trampoline top is on the garage floor.  We're not too worse for the wear.  All four legs are in the swampy field and we only lost two springs which I am sure are in the field also.  We'll just have to wait for it to dry out a bit before traipsing out there to pick up the pieces.

Dave and I aren't too worse for the wear either but we were drenched.  Hair, sweat shirt, pants, shoes.....soaked.  We walk in the back door chuckling at the experience and how soaked we are and then I smell the burnt.........almonds!  We ran out the door so quickly and I forgot that I was toasting almond slices for our Hawaiian haystacks.  There's Hannah at the stove stirring the almonds and chatting with Grandma on the phone asking what to do.  What an awesome kid.  She kept stirring them so they didn't burn too bad.  This batch got tossed in the garbage but at least I still had some so I could start over.

For some reason, we love to keep life interesting at our house.  Never a dull moment.  At least we could laugh about it this time.  What are the odds?

Hannah's comment to my mom, "Why are we the only ones that can't keep a trampoline in our yard?"  Well, good question honey!  I think a couple of bags of cement are in order......we'll get the thing planted to the ground!

The New Van

Last Saturday morning, we got up early, took the girls to Dave's parent's in Nibley and he and I headed to Bountiful to test drive a van we saw on ksl.

Of course this had to be the morning after the HUGE snow storm so we couldn't leave until Dave made us a path in the 10 1/2" of snow on our driveway!

We weren't going to test drive to see if we like the Toyota Sienna.  We know we do because that's what our other van was.  We were going to make sure the van was in good condition and to see if it's one we wanted to possibly get.

We test drove the van to Dave's Sister's in Woods Cross (even though she wouldn't answer the door and let us in......she thought we were the mailman and why the dog was barking) and we checked things out.  On our way back we pulled in to a parking lot and did a bit more "research" (thanks to Dave's detective work and snooping in the glove box) and found all of the repairs and upkeep done on the vehicle.  Good information to know.  We decided at this point that we'd make an offer on the vehicle and came up with an amount that we'd pay.

Dave was upfront and honest with the seller (she was awesome......she was from Scotland and I loved listening to her accent) and told her the things he saw wrong with the van and told her that he doesn't like to bicker so give him a price and he'll tell her whether or not we can meet it.  She told us that they actually just wanted to be able to pay it off and told us approximately what that price was.  Dave jumped and told her that we'd pay it off (happened to be less than we really wanted to offer.....sweet) and so now came the search for a cashier's check on a Saturday afternoon.

The seller got us a payoff amount and we were off to find the local Deseret First Credit Union.  We pulled in to the CU a little after 12 and realized that their lobby wasn't open.  We drove through the drive up and were told that they couldn't help us with a cashier's check.  They were limited on what they could help us with where it was a Saturday.

The teller was nice and told us that we could go to Cyprus Credit Union in Centerville, which had full service lobby open on Saturday and they could help us in getting a check.  She gave us the address, phone number and directions in how to get there.

So, off we head to Centerville.  The teller's directions were great.  We drove right to the address.....but......there's no Cyprus CU.  There's a Zions Bank, an America First CU and a Mountain America CU but no Cyprus CU.  We spend the next 20+ minutes trying to find the dang thing.  Dave has called his brother and he's searching the Internet trying to help us find it.  Everything comes back to the address we have but there's no bank.

At the beginning of the search, we drove through the Walmart parking lot to see if there was a sign stating that the bank was inside there.  Nothing.  Dave is now getting frustrated because it's not like we're whizzing around in a car.....we're in the "large" rental truck.  We finally agree to go to Mountain America CU to see if they can help us.  Oh...that's right.  Their lobby is closed.  So we head to America First CU.  Low and behold....their lobby is open!!!  Inside, we chat with the teller and she informs us that America First can't help us because they're a CU on their own and not connected to the others.  Thank goodness for the other teller eavesdropping on our conversation.....she knew that the Cyprus CU was inside Walmart!  I could have jumped the counter and kissed her!

It's now 12:40 when we get back in the rental truck to head to Walmart.  We're now worried that they're going to close at 1 p.m. and we've got to hurry.  We were relieved to see the sign that said they were open until 3 p.m.  Phew!  We mentioned our situation to the teller and she said that Walmart won't give them any sign space for advertising.  Where's the manager?  I'll let him know that a sign would be helpful!!!

It cost us $1 to get the cashier's check from Cyprus and probably $7 in gas from running around in the truck but we got it and headed back to purchase the van.  You know when you're dealing with us it can't be easy.  Just one though.....just once I'd like to not have a "story" to tell and would love to report that it went smooth.  Maybe someday.

The van is a 2005 Toyota Sienna LE, which is the same year of our other van.  It is the "step up" model from what we had.  We now have leather seats (never had them before so we'll see which I like better) one door that is automatic (which I might disconnect if the girls don't stop fighting over who gets to open and close it) a DVD player (with a LARGE screen according to the girls) and the ability to see the outside temperature.  Nice!  It actually has the same mileage as our other car so we pretty much were able to go straight across and replace what we had.

Here she is......

Here's two crazy girls that couldn't resist being in the photo.

And here's the awesome pink car seats.
