Happy Birthday to Me

I've been trying to get everything updated on my blog so that I can get another book published in time for Christmas.  I have everything caught up to April and sometime in this month I had a birthday.

It is so nice to have girls.  They are so worried about making sure I have everything I needed for my birthday including a cake.  They talked Grandma Peterson into buying me one.  Aw!  Sweet!

Hole in the Rock

Dave took Hannah and Ashley on a 4-wheeling adventure to Hole in the Rock April 2-4.  This was Dave's fourth year in a row going, Hannah's second and Ashley's first.  They were accompanied on this trip by Grandma & Grandpa Welker, Nate & boys, Dave's Uncle Ken, Dave's Uncle Ralph, cousin John Oler & kids, cousin Lori Fanning & family, Linda & Dan and crew, Nieces Alicia & Kate.

Dave enjoys doing things like this with the girls.  I have struggled for years about us not having a boy for Dave to do all of these adventures with but it warms my heart when the girls buck up and go and do.  I know Dave loves showing them what he loves to do and being with them for some bonding time.

Here's some stylin' babes

Ashley & Grandpa

There always has to be an adventure on a Welker outing and this one was no different.  Dave's cousin John ended up rolling his Rhino and amputating his pinkie finger.  The decision was made to call in lifeflight in hopes of saving his finger where he's a computer programmer and types quite a bit.  Here's some pictures Dave took of the experience.  The girls thought it was pretty cool to see the helicopter come in.

John loaded in and his brave little twins standing by his side

Uncle Ralph, John's Dad, looking on

and there he goes.....

and don't forget this creepy little thing they found in a sleeping bag. EWWWW!

After a fun adventure, everyone made it home safe and sound and tired.

Hannah Turns 10

Wow!  Where has the time gone?  I can't believe that Hannah is 10!!!

This was Hannah's year to have a birthday party.  After much chatting about what kind f party she wanted, we decided to have the party here in Mendon and do iron on shirts.  Let me just say.....the was the first and probably last birthday party we'll have in Mendon.  Oh my gosh!  It turned out to be total craziness!

When you're a working mom you live life one day at a time and you have to get through the prior day before you can begin to think about the next day.  Hannah and I had decided on doing the iron on shirts and playing games for her party.  Her party was on Saturday and her and I were out shopping on Friday for the "supplies".  Well.....let me just say from experience that there are many different types of iron-ons for shirts.  Some are easy; some are not.  We didn't find this out until Dave and I were in the middle of putting on the party and it turned into a disaster.  It took FOREVER to complete one shirt.  The girls were getting bored and Hannah ended up having to be the "lead" to keep her party going.  While we were ironing shirts, Hannah started the bingo game and ended up being the caller.  She was a great sport but by the time the party was over, which we scheduled for three hours because originally we were going to have a movie, Dave and I were exhausted and ready for all 13 girls to go home.

Thank goodness life is live and learn and with this experience we learned that it really is a great deal to have the birthday parties at establishments that cater and all you have to do is sit back and relax!

We only got a few pictures of the party because Dave and I were too busy but at least we got a couple so Hannah knows that we really did have a party for her.

We had to get a picture of Nicole's shirt.  With all the craziness going on, Dave and I didn't realize she had gone outside to decorate her own shirt.  She grabbed the fabric paints and went to town!

Isn't this a precious picture......Dave and I ironing.....and ironing.....and ironing......

We also had a little family celebration on Sunday with Grandma Peterson and Grandma & Grandpa Welker.  This was a little quieter, more peaceful and a fun celebration.

Little did she know these were sparkler candles......

Really?!?  What is wrong with these things?

Happy Birthday Hannah!

Spring Break 2012

This year Hannah and Ashley's school took USU's Spring Break.  So my girls were off school March 12-16 instead of April 2 - 6. Dave was in Salt Lake all week attending training.  I took Wednesday through Friday off and we headed down to Salt Lake to invade Dave and his hotel room.  Okay....we really weren't invading; he invited us.

On Wednesday, the girls and I packed and then headed into town to get the tires on the van rotated and for the girls to hang with Grandma Peterson for a bit while I went and joined the other ladies in the Primary Presidency for lunch.  We returned home around 2:30pm, finished packing and headed out to find Dave at the hotel.

The hotel we stayed at had an awesome pool area.  The girls were stoked.  There was a large area with a slippery slide in the middle of the pool.  This section was only 1 1/2 feet deep, which was perfect for Nicole.  Hannah and Ashley played in another section that went from 3'6" to 3'9".  Once again, the perfect depth.  There were two more sections to the pool.  One was the same at 3'6" to 3'9" and the last section went from 4' to 5'.  There was an enclosed slide that came into the pool but it was only open Friday through Sunday.  The cool thing about this slide was that it goes outside and then comes and dumps you into the indoor pool area.  Cool!

Wednesday night consisted of getting to the hotel and hooking up with Dave and heading out for dinner.  We ate at Red Robin.....yum!  Dave, Hannah and I all left with stomach aches from eating so much.  But hey.....can you really pass on their fry sauce?  It's to die for!  We then picked up a Redbox movie and headed back to the hotel room for a movie night.

Thursday while Dave was in training I took the girls to Layton.  We first stopped at Old Navy to purchase flip flops for everyone and then we headed to Chuck E Cheese for the rest of the afternoon.  It was the most awesome trip to Chuck E Cheese I've ever had.  We had the whole place to ourselves.  We even arrived right after they had checked all of the games and so the girls were able to get all of the tickets that had spewed out.  Hannah and Ashley went to one of the workers and tried to turn the tickets in but she told them they could keep them.  I love how honest they are in not wanting to take something that doesn't belong to them.  We spent way longer at Chuck E Cheese than I thought we would but it was okay.  The girls had a great time.

Thursday night we took the girls out to a fancy dinner at Olive Garden.  The girls have been asking for quite some time to eat at this restaurant so it was a great time to let them try.  What I remember most about this eating out adventure is Ashley trying to get out of the booth by crawling under the table and popping up in the aisle and her head hitting a tray with a full pitcher of lemonade on it.  Luckily, I saw it coming and was able to grab the tray before all of the lemonade spilled.  Phew!

Friday while Dave was finishing up his training, the girls and I packed up the hotel room and then headed to the Living Aquarium to hang out and wait for Dave to join us.  While we were waiting the girls decided that they needed to pee.  This is after Nicole has already peed in the parking lot because "she couldn't hold it any longer!"  We walked across the street to a convenience store to use the potty.  As we were walking in, we noticed a little store called the Chocolate Cottage.  I can't remember how it happened but inside the store I asked about the Chocolate Cottage and those around us highly suggested we go in for a visit.  Inside was a TON of amazing homemade chocolates.  YUM!  Each one of us got something to try and even picked out a white chocolate golf ball for Dave.  After selecting our chocolates, we headed back across the street to enjoy eating them on the lawn and to finish waiting for Dave to join.

Once Dave got there, we headed inside to see all of the cool animals.

We left the Living Planet Aquarium and went to Paradise Bakery for lunch.  This was an awesome eatery that Dave found while attending some of his training in Salt Lake.  I would highly recommend it.  It was delish.  In fact, they are opening one up this month in the Cache Valley Mall and we can't wait to go.

After lunch, we headed home with some tired girls.  What a fun Spring Break Vacation!

The Places They Can Sleep

Nicole was hunkered down in the rocking chair watching a movie on the iPod.  She became awful quiet so I checked on her.  This is what I found.....her asleep!

Christmas Vacation to Thatcher, AZ

The night of Christmas Day the tree came down, the living room pulled together and bags packed to leave bright and early at 4 a.m. to start our trek to Thatcher, Arizona to spend our Christmas vacation with Dave's sister Wendy and her family.  It is a 14+ hour drive to get to Wendy's but the girls do amazing in the car.  We couldn't ask for better kids for long trips.  We did the drive in one day and arrived in Thatcher at 7:30 p.m.

One day of hiking

Wendy and Kevin - what a cute couple

It was kind of funny that we left Utah, which had no snow and found snow on our hike in Arizona.

I love these pictures.  I sure hope when they're teenagers they'll still want to hold their Dad's hand.

A Day at the Spa with Nicole
Tyler was such a good sport to let Nicole do his hair.

A Few Random Photos from Nicole Playing with the Camera

One of the things the girls loved the most....playing games with cousins
After Nicole playing with the camera there ended up a fingerprint on the lens.  I didn't catch it for quite awhile as you'll see in the next few pictures.

Thanks to the Jensen's for letting us come and invade their home and Christmas vacation. We had a great time hanging out with them for a week.  The girls have already asked if we're going again this year.
