The New Van

Last Saturday morning, we got up early, took the girls to Dave's parent's in Nibley and he and I headed to Bountiful to test drive a van we saw on ksl.

Of course this had to be the morning after the HUGE snow storm so we couldn't leave until Dave made us a path in the 10 1/2" of snow on our driveway!

We weren't going to test drive to see if we like the Toyota Sienna.  We know we do because that's what our other van was.  We were going to make sure the van was in good condition and to see if it's one we wanted to possibly get.

We test drove the van to Dave's Sister's in Woods Cross (even though she wouldn't answer the door and let us in......she thought we were the mailman and why the dog was barking) and we checked things out.  On our way back we pulled in to a parking lot and did a bit more "research" (thanks to Dave's detective work and snooping in the glove box) and found all of the repairs and upkeep done on the vehicle.  Good information to know.  We decided at this point that we'd make an offer on the vehicle and came up with an amount that we'd pay.

Dave was upfront and honest with the seller (she was awesome......she was from Scotland and I loved listening to her accent) and told her the things he saw wrong with the van and told her that he doesn't like to bicker so give him a price and he'll tell her whether or not we can meet it.  She told us that they actually just wanted to be able to pay it off and told us approximately what that price was.  Dave jumped and told her that we'd pay it off (happened to be less than we really wanted to offer.....sweet) and so now came the search for a cashier's check on a Saturday afternoon.

The seller got us a payoff amount and we were off to find the local Deseret First Credit Union.  We pulled in to the CU a little after 12 and realized that their lobby wasn't open.  We drove through the drive up and were told that they couldn't help us with a cashier's check.  They were limited on what they could help us with where it was a Saturday.

The teller was nice and told us that we could go to Cyprus Credit Union in Centerville, which had full service lobby open on Saturday and they could help us in getting a check.  She gave us the address, phone number and directions in how to get there.

So, off we head to Centerville.  The teller's directions were great.  We drove right to the address.....but......there's no Cyprus CU.  There's a Zions Bank, an America First CU and a Mountain America CU but no Cyprus CU.  We spend the next 20+ minutes trying to find the dang thing.  Dave has called his brother and he's searching the Internet trying to help us find it.  Everything comes back to the address we have but there's no bank.

At the beginning of the search, we drove through the Walmart parking lot to see if there was a sign stating that the bank was inside there.  Nothing.  Dave is now getting frustrated because it's not like we're whizzing around in a car.....we're in the "large" rental truck.  We finally agree to go to Mountain America CU to see if they can help us.  Oh...that's right.  Their lobby is closed.  So we head to America First CU.  Low and behold....their lobby is open!!!  Inside, we chat with the teller and she informs us that America First can't help us because they're a CU on their own and not connected to the others.  Thank goodness for the other teller eavesdropping on our conversation.....she knew that the Cyprus CU was inside Walmart!  I could have jumped the counter and kissed her!

It's now 12:40 when we get back in the rental truck to head to Walmart.  We're now worried that they're going to close at 1 p.m. and we've got to hurry.  We were relieved to see the sign that said they were open until 3 p.m.  Phew!  We mentioned our situation to the teller and she said that Walmart won't give them any sign space for advertising.  Where's the manager?  I'll let him know that a sign would be helpful!!!

It cost us $1 to get the cashier's check from Cyprus and probably $7 in gas from running around in the truck but we got it and headed back to purchase the van.  You know when you're dealing with us it can't be easy.  Just one though.....just once I'd like to not have a "story" to tell and would love to report that it went smooth.  Maybe someday.

The van is a 2005 Toyota Sienna LE, which is the same year of our other van.  It is the "step up" model from what we had.  We now have leather seats (never had them before so we'll see which I like better) one door that is automatic (which I might disconnect if the girls don't stop fighting over who gets to open and close it) a DVD player (with a LARGE screen according to the girls) and the ability to see the outside temperature.  Nice!  It actually has the same mileage as our other car so we pretty much were able to go straight across and replace what we had.

Here she is......

Here's two crazy girls that couldn't resist being in the photo.

And here's the awesome pink car seats.
